"There was a marathon on once when I had the flu. Some things stick with you."

Or so goes her excuse.

"I believe your play's mistaken, Miss Molly. For it goes private then corporal then sergeant amongst the ranks -- with the occasional sergeant major if they're well accomplished."

[talentsgirl]

"...it didn't really deal with the ranks so much. I mean, I'm not sure all the titles strictly translated over."

And she entered the kitchen and set her orchids down on the counter.

"The world the stories were set in was made-up."

He stopped just within the doorway. Almost as though on guard. Strange, old habits.

"A mite like this place, then. So much of it seems imagined."

[talentsgirl]

"Mmm, I can see how it would seem that way." Her wings ruffled, restless, underneath the zippered shirt.

"What kind of tea would you like?"

She glanced back at him since he'd apparently... stopped. Hmm. Should she point to the tables in the kitchen? She'd wait and see.

[greenjacketed]

"You've kinds to choose from?"

Normally, he didn't get much choice. And he would indeed wait for her to be done with the brewing and sitting herself before he dared to take a chair. "Whatever you're having, lass."

Her lips quirked up. "If you say so..." and she reached for the kettle.

[greenjacketed]

"...Have you ever seen a jungle, lass?"

[talentsgirl]

Her hands stilled on the kettle for a moment. "Not yet."

But I will when I return home.

She forced her thoughts passed that and glanced over her shoulder at him, still standing by the door. "Was that where your mission was?"

[greenjacketed]

"Only on the outskirts, Molly. We weren't meant to go too deep into the thick."

[talentsgirl]

"And that's where the dead people were?" She set the kettle on the stove and turned on the heat. "Or the... not dead people?"

Honestly, this place broke every rule of life and death...

[greenjacketed]

"We had to carry'em. It was especially toilsome in the heat."

He tried not to focus on their deadness. Or their not-deadness.

"Carry them?" This was the most bizarre thing.

She turned to face him, leaning lightly against the counter. "Wait - don't tell me - were they sprouting out of the ground like plants?"

[greenjacketed]

"Nah," a guffaw of a laugh. "Found'em as if asleep on the jungle floor. Deep, deep asleep. Unable to be woken up."

Molly shook her head. "And they're just... laying there?"

[greenjacketed]

"Dressed like we were when we arrived in his place..."

[talentsgirl]

"...and now I'm wondering if the dress code is part of the world, or if people actually have to dress us."

Because... why would they send out people to retrieve these bodies if they already had the bodies to dress them? How very strange.

[greenjacketed]

Hey. He hadn't thought that point. He considered it, now.

"...Eh. Their ways are strange ways." Sharpe began to pace to the other side of the room. He and Sparrow had talked about something and he wondered just when, exactly, he should implement it.

"Strange or not, there's still a method behind it. A practice." There always was.

And then the tea kettle whistled, and Molly turned to attend it.

[greenjacketed]

And if they could find that practice...

Sharpe was wound so tight that his attention snapped to the kettle as it whistled. A soft, uttered: "Bloody hell..."

She removed the kettle from the stove and glanced over at him. "All right?"

[greenjacketed]

"Only spooked, lass. Metal canteens don't whistle."

[talentsgirl]

She assessed him and lightly shook her head, "You're standing stiff as a board."

Just. Leaving it at that, as a simple observation. She moved to pour the water, "Are you sure you still want tea?"

[greenjacketed]

"Dead certain, Molly." For Sharpe loved his tea. Often, he craved it more than a nip of brandy or rum. No matter the weather.

The Major made a concerted effort to relax. "It's a fine thing, you making it for me."

That almost made her feel bad about her plan to give him green tea.

Almost.

It was healthier, after all.

...she discretely retrieves some Earl Grey and puts it in a third mug. "You may not like it. But what's that saying about trying everything once?"

Since Earl Grey takes longer to seep, she leaves it on the counter and with the mugs in hand towards the kitchen table.
