[ Voice, Action ] "You lost today, kid. But that doesn't mean you have to like it."

[Molly debated, but in the end, didn't lock this post from Harry. It was as good as a note slipped under his door, really.]

Hey, Luceti, here's a crazy question. Does anyone know the best path up to the mountains? I hear there's a lake up there I'd like to see. And does the Welcome Center keep those really good maps in stock, the ones that are a bit more in detail than the one in the journal?

And here's a slightly less crazy question - if there's anyone feel like filling in an inquiring mind and have a chat over a cold one, I'd love to know some more about these missions everyone keeps going on. Even if it was about the more recent one, or about one of the ones we can sign up for, there's nothing like first hand experience. I'll be in the Good Spirits from 1-3 if there's any takers.

[And that is exactly where she will be, sitting at the bar or on one of the tables, looking friendly over a cold one... which will originally be an iced tea. She may upgrade, depending on the conversation and the conversate-ee.

After her time in the Good Spirits, hopefully chatting with friendly, informative folk and if not spent poured over a very old-looking book and a village map (hopefully someone will help her get her hands on one of the Nami editions), she'll head to the Item Shop and finish picking out her camping gear. After being exposed to some serious bad news magic, she hasn't been quite herself. And this dusty old book and a remembered conversation with Shiro once upon a time has given her an idea.]

It's...definitely a challenge, that's for certain. Having my magic helps, and my husband's a strong warrior but I'd be lying if I said it was easy. Numbers aren't always on our side, though thankfully it's not usually as intense as the drafts.

[Of course he hadn't, but he's Draco. Still, he just gives her a flat look and then looks at the bar.]

I suspect it's over there.

You [Molly straightens up and looks at him] are a very bad drinking buddy.

[...SIIIGH damn it, woman. Fine, fine, he's more or less roughly shoving his glass toward her and getting up, stomping over to the bar to get another one. He has to play nice to get answers, but this is pushing it.]

"...Must be awful lonely, if you don't mind me saying so."

[Molly blinked in a 'wow, that actually worked?' sort of way.

Huh.

...well, now she had a feeling she really was going to need that drink.

That doesn't stop her from calling out a cheeky:]

[as she takes a sip. Hey, might as well enjoy herself while she can.]

[Molly tilted her head to the side curiously, exposing the long serpentine tattoo on the side of her neck. She wondered where Saori had received the impression that there was something about the way she had battled which had hurt her. She'd given no indication of how being so near to such dark forces had hurt, nothing that would have passed beyond the Veil. Unless Harry had said something, Saori's assumption seemed... strange. And unnecessary, after all-]

I have seen you fight.

[There was only the slightest emphasis on the word 'seen.' She hadn't used her Sight. Hadn't needed to, in order to witness the ferocity of Saori's attack and her almost sadistic defeat of the god Apep. And she wondered why, in this moment, she wasn't afraid. She probably should be.

She glanced down at the paper, dropping her gaze from Saori's. It wouldn't due to look at them too long.]

What is it?

[Her voice was mild, curious.]

No, I mean - that's true too. But the fact that they need you to go on so many combat missions? That's got to mean something about how they're fighting.

"Oh, I don't know. You can do a lot of things without looking someone in the eyes."

Deliberately cheeking and moderately salacious. Because of course he was right. She'd done the math. By the time the White Council would begin to take her seriously, her youngest brother would be dying of old age. If she was lucky enough, smart enough to live that long in the first place - Harry hadn't been, and if that didn't tell her what her life expectancy was, she didn't know what would.

[Saori merely nodded, hoping that Molly understood. Harry had mentioned it in passing. Moreover, she could perceive things in a way that humans simply couldn't, agelessness and inhuman senses for the flows of magic, chi, and other such things helping her make such a conclusion. She'd been near enough magically sensitive people in her world to know that massive displays of power could have negative consequences. None of this is terribly important, if Molly understood the warning, though.

Her eyes flicker down to the paper]

A Yorishiro. If you tear it in a time of peril, it will call to me. I will be able to find you no matter where you may be, and help you should you need it.

[She nods, a soft frown forming that's temporarily alleviated by the arrival of her iced tea.]

I don't see it stopping anytime soon, either. From what I recall of my time out there, more people were always needed. It makes me wonder how much of an affect we're really having.

[Resisting the urge to make rude hand gestures, this one. However, he'll return a short time later with another drink and resuming his seat, once again staring at her map.]

Remind me why you're going again?

[It was a question she could dodge or redirect, but she had a feeling that would just make him pursue it with more persistence. Maybe a nonanswer would do.]

I just - felt like some space.

"But are they ever quite so thrilling, lass?" Said the equally cheeky but nevertheless somewhat sentimental Major.

Her rejoinder was, perhaps, far more telling than she'd intended, caught up in the banter and not quite guarding her words, "I wouldn't know."

...Huh. Well. It was clear enough that she could have simply been referring to her low eye-contact in general but could you blame a man for his wandering mind?

Sharpe cleared his throat.

Of course -- sweet maid like her. Molly had a tongue in her head but she'd seemed nothing but good and true to the soldier. Virtuous. Not that he'd find aught wrong with her if she wasn't but...

The woman had heart and she didn't seem to hide it. Sharpe liked that about her. Even this banter slip-up felt soaked in honesty.

"More's the pity for your admirers, Miss Molly."

Molly found herself off-balance, caught between the desire to want to explain or gloss over, and finding herself actually... blushing very faintly.

Good grief, Molly Carpenter.

She made a solid attempt at pulling herself together and regaining some ground.

"This," she said firmly, straightening up, "is striking me as Third Date conversation."

[Molly didn't have any response to that... because quite honestly, she didn't know. She paused a moment or two as Rydia received her drink and then asked a different kind of question.]

How do the Malnosso treat you? When you're out there, I mean.

[Molly regarded the Yorishiro, uncertain.

And as she was trying to figure it out, a small smile curved her mouth and - she really couldn't help it - she flicked her gaze up to share it.]

And if I tear it in a time of normalcy?

[She'd always wondered how those things worked. And Harry was a terrible influence on her. But a test was a test.]

It would call me, and I'd come. After that, it would be up to you.

[She returns Molly's smile, cheerful and glad for the bit of levity]

I could make tea, or play a song for you. If you wanted a back rub, I'd grant it. Its a favor, but if it is too onerous then I reserve the right to refuse.

[Saori laughs quietly. Why Molly...you remind her ever so much of Harry]

You'll not have me scrubbing dishes and doing laundry, I hope?

"Third, eh?"

He refrained from explaining just how he might choose to count the meetings they'd so far shared. After all, many of them had been born of intense determination on his part.

"Then -- tell me -- what must an admirer do to win hisself a first?"

They give us whatever we ask for, within reason. As long as we strive to complete our mission, we're treated well. Try to run away, though, and I'm sure that changes. I haven't attempted it, however, so I can't give details.
